Parque Batlle neighborhood

Parque Batlle is a neighborhood in the city of Montevideo (Uruguay). It is named like this because this neighborhood is surrounded by the park José Batlle y Ordóñez. In this park are located the Centenario Stadium, the athletics track, the Municipal Velodrome and two smaller stadiums.


The park is an ideal place for walking, hiking or exercise and enjoy the fresh air provided by the wooded area. Near the Centenario Stadium there is a monument “La Carreta” (the Cart), designed by José Belloni.


The current Battle Park includes four former districts:  Belgrano, Italian, Villa Dolores and Batlle Park itself. Lying south of Italy Avenue and north of Avenue Rivera. The neighborhood abuts La Blanqueada, Tres Cruces, Pocitos and Buceo. In front of Rivera Avenue is located the Park Zoo Dolores Pereira de Rossell, known as Villa Dolores, old name of the neighborhood.  Through the years, Parque Battle was called Aldea, Park of the allied  and finally Parque Batlle.
