This building was built in 1928 by Italian architect Mario Palanti where Confectionery originally was “La Giralda”, where Gerardo Matos Rodriguez wrote his famous tango “La Cumparsita” in 1917. The tower at the northwest corner of the building dominates the skyline and serves as a gateway to the Avenida 18 de Julio, Montevideo’s main avenue.
